Meet Bright Haven

Support for them.
Breathing space for you.

Bright Haven Respite and Support Services is a developing Maryland agency with a mission to support children and young adults with developmental disabilities and their families through compassionate, individualized in-home care.

Our approach brings together supervision, companionship, and everyday skill building—helping individuals build confidence while giving caregivers time to rest and attend to their own needs.

Bright Haven is preparing to launch. Service availability and enrollment information will be announced when ready.

Planned insurance participation
Bright Haven plans to accept Medicaid and private insurance plans that cover respite care, subject to provider enrollment, credentialing, and plan participation approval. Accepted plans will be confirmed before services begin. Coverage and any required authorization will be verified individually.

Diapers, pull-ups, and wipes

Could insurance help with supplies?

If your child needs diapers or pull-ups because of a medical or developmental condition, ask their clinician and health plan about medically necessary incontinence supplies. Maryland Medicaid covers qualifying medical supplies under its rules. Being autistic or not yet toilet trained does not, by itself, guarantee approval.

Ask about wipes separately. Wipes are not automatically covered when diapers are approved. Private insurance benefits also vary; check each product with your plan before ordering.

  1. Start with your child’s clinician. Discuss toileting needs and ask whether an assessment, prescription, and documentation of medical necessity are appropriate.
  2. Call the number on your insurance card. Ask about incontinence supplies, age requirements, covered products, quantity limits, any costs, and prior authorization.
  3. Request an approved supplier. Ask the plan for an in-network medical supply company that serves children and accepts your exact coverage. Confirm eligibility and costs before placing an order.
  4. Prepare the paperwork. The clinician and supplier can explain what is needed, such as a prescription, supporting records, product size, and quantity. Submit sensitive records through their secure channels.
  5. If coverage is denied, ask why. Request the written decision and appeal instructions. For a Medicaid member under 21, ask the plan and clinician whether an EPSDT review is appropriate.
What can I say when I call insurance?

“My child needs incontinence supplies related to a medical or developmental condition. Does our plan cover diapers or pull-ups? Are wipes covered separately? What documentation, age rules, authorization, and approved supplier do we need? Are there monthly limits or out-of-pocket costs?”

These links are for family education. Your clinician, insurer, and supplier determine medical need, coverage, and authorization. Bright Haven does not issue prescriptions or approve insurance benefits. Please do not email medical records or insurance ID numbers to our general inbox.
